Poe Tiare Tararo is a multifaceted theatre practitioner and MFA graduate from Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington. Originally from Mauke in the Cook Islands, Poe Tiare has made significant strides in the New Zealand theatre scene. She co-founded the emerging theatre company What It Is alongside Hannah Taylor in 2022, with a mission to celebrate diverse cultures on stage.
Poe Tiare wrote and directed the jukebox musical Raru e Maruakaītā, based on a traditional Cook Islands legend. This production, which explores themes of grief, love, and community, was showcased at the Six Degrees Festival 2023 held at BATS Theatre. The musical integrates traditional Cook Islands dance, music, and language, offering a culturally immersive experience.
